13 Days to Christmas: LIGHT

Christmas lights are evil, my friend wrote on a facebook post. I know what she means. Tangled strands that don’t light are irritating.

But the original Christmas lights were a different story.

There was a lot of light happening that first Christmas.

The glory of the Lord shone around the shepherds on the hillside.

Wise men from the east rejoiced to see the star light the way to the Child.

Heavenly dreams and heavenly messengers appeared to Zacharias, Joseph, Mary, shepherds, and wise men.

Light seems an appropriate way to announce the One who claimed in John 8 to be “the Light of the World.”

Maybe the heavens themselves couldn’t contain the excitement of the Light’s entrance into humanity. Perhaps His glory leaked through the cracks, and spilled a glimpse of His glorious light onto mankind.

Did the star’s light cast a shadow of the cross over Bethlehem?

In the night of our souls, in the depravity of our sin, Jesus offers Light. Darkness could not overcome Him.

Today His Light shines in our darkest nights.

“…Who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.” 1 Tim. 6:16; NKJV.

From a dark birth canal and into a dark world entered Light.
