“…and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6; KJV.
When Isaiah penned those words, Israel was being decimated by Assyria. Droves of people were taken captive.
The people cried out for a Messiah to make Israel great again.
Some 800 years later on a Bethlehem hillside a peaceful night was shattered by the cry of a baby and a multitude of angels, “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.”
But The Messiah didn’t bring the expected political peace, He brought a different kind of peace.
“For He Himself is our peace… Enmity between a perfect God and sinful mankind met at the cross.
“who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments… “ The endless cycle of bloodshed required by the Old Testament law was no longer needed.
A baby Prince of Peace stretched out tiny arms and cried.
“that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross…” With Jesus’ last breath on the cross, The Prince of Peace paid the price for our peace.
(Eph. 2; NKJV.)
Jesus, the man, Prince of Peace, with outstretched arms cried, “It is finished.”
